Dr. Earl Cook Memorial Scholarship
The Dr. Earl Cook Metis Memorial Scholarship Fund is offering scholarships to Post Secondary Metis status students in Northern Region 1.
The scholarship fund was created in honour of Dr. Earl Cook. He was a passionate educator, inspirational advocate and played an instrumental role in the development of Northern education.
Dr. Earl Cook spent many years promoting opportunities and advocating for Metis students.

Dr. Earl Cook is remembered for his vison, leadership, and perseverance (ahkamēyimowin) for the rights of Metis people in Northern Saskatchewan.
He began work in 1971 at the Northern Lights school division and worked in the Languages department and developed many Indigenous language stories and resource materials. At the same time he began lobbying for the establishment of the Gabriel Dumont Institute where he served as board chair for many years.
In addition, Dr. Earl Cook played an instrumental role in the development of Metis governance and was an elected leader for Metis Nation Saskatchewan. He served as Regional Director for Northern Region 1 for two terms and during this time he held 2 ministerial portfolios which were Minister of Finance and Minister of Education.
He worked hard to ensure that all Metis had a voice and that their voice was reflected through the process of self-Government. This scholarship is a tribute to the work that Dr. Earl Cook has done to help post-secondary students strive for higher education.
It is the Northern Region 1 hope that many Metis graduates will become leaders in their field and continue his legacy to offer a bright and prosperous future for Metis citizens of our province.
